In a move that isn’t surprising anyone, 20th Century Fox is crafting another X-Men spinoff movie but this time it’s for Deadpool, the “merc with a mouth” that was played so well by Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film is (tentatively) titled simply, Deadpool.
Announced by Variety as being “under development,” there’s also talk of another Wolverine movie that touches more another of the “Easter egg” credits scene where he’s drinking in Japan. (It seems that there are at least two cuts of Wolverine, with various different clips cut into or after the trailers; my screening got one with Stryker and the Deadpool clip, not the Japan scene. — GEM)
Unlike several of my friends, I actually liked Wolverine—once I realized that it was just a big action movie and that I shouldn’t think about the plot too much.
I haven’t read the comics continually since the mid-to late 1990s, so any little bit of jiggering that was done to the character’s timeline was completely okay with me, as was taking the current White Queen’s powers and giving them to Silverfox’s sister, all just so the fans could giggle and nudge each other when it showed Scott and Emma working together near the end of the movie.
So if they end up doing a lot of jiggering with Deadpool in order for an awesome action movie to be made (and with Reynolds’ good looks, I do not see them hiding him under a mask for very long or disfiguring him too deeply), I’m also perfectly fine with that.
UPDATE: Coming Soon is reporting that — according to “a source close to Fox” — the Deadpool movie will be developed by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, not Fox (although presumably Fox is still distributing).

Judging from interviews, Reynolds seems to love Deadpool enough that I think he’d be happy keeping his face under the mask for most of the movie.
Maybe a flashback or something to keep his pretty face in the trailer.
The writers have their work cut out for them in fixing the shit that the Wolverine movie kind of messed up. I don’t think it’s unfixable, though.

You have to kind of wonder how they’re going to make up for the teleporting, eye beams, and arm blades, though. Taht’s going to take quite a lot of doing.

My thoughts exactly — although I think the arm blades are easy: he just rips them out and heals his arms back up.
The eye beams and teleporting are trickier, but one cop-out solution would be to say that because they ended the process early, those powers were unstable and dissipated. Lame, yes. But if you’re going to have a more comedic tone for the movie (which it seems like they will), then it or something equally lame could work.
Hell, they could explain it away in a talking-to-the-fourth-wall bit of dialogue, even (this is Deadpool we’re talking about, after all), although I doubt they would do something THAT easy.

Silver Fox (who was never actually called Silver Fox in the movie) didn’t actually get Emma’s power. Emma is a generic telepath like Xavier, and later got diamond hard skin. The Kayla character could “influence people she had physical contact with). Making them sisters was just unnecessary though, especially when Silver Fox was Native American and Emma is a blond.

…..you know, there is an easier way to how Deadpool became Deadpool again…just ignore the entire Wolverine movie. If this was a true Deadpool movie, we’d have like the first five minutes of Wade ranting about how they could they ruin his character and demand a complete reboot of his character

TECHNICALLY, Deadpool had a limited teleporting ability, but that was linked to Cable, and every time he used it, Cable went with him. But that’s a huge stretch.

All of you guys are missing the most obvious answer: set the movie between when Wade leaves the team and when he gets captured by Stryker. Or better yet, before he gets recruited by Stryker. We all liked Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson just fine when he was swinging blades and taking names, right?

I think it should be after Wolverine or ignore the entire movie all together. Since Deadpool is fourth wall breaking, he can usually move the story around for his own amusement. I’d like to think that his story has nothing to do with Weapon X but more like a “another day in the life of Wade Wilson…that went bad”

My assumption after seeing the movie would be that having his head severed and the re-attached would cause him to lose some of the grafted abilities… but that was just a guess.
I would prefer him to be more like he was in the begining of the movie and not be using his Mortal Combat arm blade thingees, with the scarring and mask of course. =)

Just get rid of his eyes. He can regenerate them without the ability to shoot beams. I don’t think that would be too contrived to offend people. Teleportation doesn’t really hurt him, easier than claiming he has a teleporter. With his spiel about why he liked swords from the chopper I don’t think its a stretch to see why he’d ditch the crazy arm blades.
He also had some kind of head implant, right? So that the dude could control him in the least convincing way possible. You could attribute other factors, loss of w/e powers/madness, to Wade having a good poke round to dig it out.
They could also claim North survived, just disfigured, and make him wear the cool Maverick stuff.
Adhering to the comics isn’t crucial. They did his comic origins already, remember? In the comics. No need to reboot something that is barely broken just to appease some loonies.

It kinda needs to be somewhat closer to the comics than Wolverine Origins since the main star is a huge Deadpool fan. It doesn’t need to be hardcore close to the comics but the comic and the character is unique onto itself, that it does need to be treated different. It can’t be just an action movie nor a comedy movie. It has to be something like Tropic Thunder, a mix of both dark, pop culture, random and fourth wall breaking humor with awesome action.
Besides, since Marvel Entertainment is doing this film and Fox with very little influence, it is possible for them to just reboot it.
