Other movie fans should also be happy at the news from the Hollywood Reporter wherein director Christopher Nolan gets to put the third Batman movie on hold for a while to return to his non-Caped Crusader roots with the announcement of his deal with Warner Bros. to make a movie from an original screenplay he wrote called Inception.
Even though we don’t know what what the movie’s going to be about — other than the fact that it’s supposed to be a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind” — I’m still fired up for this because Nolan is one of those few directors who also knows words well and can make even the most stock characters into something a bit more; Michael Caine’s butlers/assistants in The Prestige and the Batman movies is an excellent example of this.
Inception is scheduled to start production this summer for a 2010 release; whether or not this will also interfere with production for Nolan’s long-awaited remake of “The Prisoner” (first talked about by Nolan in 2006) is anyone’s guess.

I’m actually kind of glad. I don’t like when talented directors get pigeon-holed into franchises. I want Nolan to continue to make Batman, but I want him to explore other avenues too.
I actually recently saw Following, and loved it. And I’ve loved everything he’s done since. One of the few directors that will get me into a seat.

I love how the movie franchises of my childhood are coming back for my own kids to see. I love these horror movies (and Iām not the only one, just check out some great reader reviews on EverHype ā http://www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc). I hope that these films stay in the foreground because they rock!

It’s probably not really delay a new Batman film too long. There were three years (and The Prestige) between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and Nolan has long said that he was going to do SOMETHING else before doing another Batman movie (which is pretty much a given, because Warner Brothers will throw a frickin’ bank at him to do it*, but I don’t believe he’s even signed on yet).
It’s a little surprising to me that it’s described as an “actioner,” though, because as such, it will probably have a longer production and post-production schedule than a (relatively) modest movie like The Prestige.
* not that those are worth much these days… š

Oh, this has me excited. Very, very excited. More Nolan is almost as good as more Nolan Batman. Hell, my inner comic fan is lying; it’s better!

Yeah, I didn’t figure for long, but I do prefer some distance, not the frantic pace that some franchises manage.
Nolan is actually one of the few where he has yet to disappoint.
Shamalyan has mostly fallen apart. Fincher’s stuff is always brilliant looking, but Panic Room was merely okay. I’ve mostly grown out of Kevin Smith’s stuff. Tarantino is always good, but I’m just not a huge fan of everything he does.
There are a few others, but most haven’t made enough films for me to properly judge.

I doubt Nolan will be remaking The Prisoner, especially since AMC is already shooting a ‘reinterpretation'(http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner/).
